Innovations such as specialist literacy and numeracy teachers, employment of a youth mentor and a boys only class are instrumental in raising student achievement and supporting the emotional wellbeing of students. Extensive pastoral care systems under the oversight of the deputy principal and the special education needs coordinator (SENCO) are contributing to high levels of student engagement. The syndicate structure is a strong feature of the school’s culture and fosters a sense of student belonging to a smaller group, within a large school community. It also enables teachers to get to know students and their families well and contributes to the positive relationships that students and parents enjoy at the school.

Students are able to experience and pursue a wide range of educational interests and opportunities. They have access to specialist teachers in technology, visual arts, music, science, information and communication technologies (ICT) and education outside the classroom. Many teachers are committed to providing extra curricular learning opportunities for students.
