Sport is an extremely important part of the culture of Tauranga Intermediate School. We believe that through sport families can unite. During the two years spent at our school students will be able to experience a wide variety of sports exploring their interests and talents.

Through your classroom programme you will experience a number of sporting opportunities each week during both the summer and winter terms. You will have the opportunity to compete in a fierce inter-house sporting competition and participate in our swimming, cross country and athletics championships.

Each term there is a large number of sports offered to our students both at school and through outside providers. We are extremely fortunate to have a committed group of staff members who are passionate about providing rich sporting opportunities for our students. We are a member of the Poverty Bay, Bay of Plenty sporting cluster which provides an array of competitions for our students to compete against the best in the region.

Annually, in term three the New Zealand Community Trust AIMS Games hosted in Tauranga is the pinnacle of our sporting year. Students compete against over 5,000 other students from across New Zealand and Australia in 16 sports. Since the tournament’s inception in 2004 Tauranga Intermediate has dominated the overall top school title. This is an achievement we are extremely proud of.
