ABSENCES

All students are expected to be at school by 8.30am, ready to commence the school day at 8.45am. If students are genuinely ill, obviously the best place for them is to rest at home so they can make a quick recovery. Due to COVID 19 please err on the side of caution - especially with coughs and cold / flu like symptoms.

Please ensure that you contact us if your child is going to be absent. It is important to do this the morning of the absence OR, in the case of a planned absence / appointment, in advance.

Attendance is monitored closely and parents will be contacted if there are any concerns.

To register your child's absence:

Email: attendance@tauranga-int.school.nz
Phone: 07 578 4401

TRANSPORT

Buses

At Tauranga Intermediate we have many students who take the bus to and from school. Mr Hansen, our Assistant Prinicpal is the person to contact for any questions and help with travelling to and from school by bus.

Travelling on the school bus is a privilege and therefore students at TIS must abide by the Bus Contract rules.

To find the most suitable bus route for your child please consult the bus websites below:

Urban School Buses (Baybus):  www.baybus.co.nz

Rural Buses (TTNG):  www.schooltransport.org.nz

Please read through this Information Letter for parents, which will be linked here.

Drop off

The best place to drop off and pick up students is the Fraser Cove Car Park or Grace Road.
For safety reasons, please don't drive up the driveway to drop off or pick up. This area is for staff and emergencies only.

Bikes and Scooters

Cycling and scootering are popular modes of transport for our students, to and from school.  Helmets must be worn and all road rules adhered to.  There is a place to lock scooters and bikes up for the day.  They may only be ridden once off the TIS site.

Phones

Students are not permitted to bring phones to school. We have phones available for students at the wellness centre and student office and our wonderful office staff are always ready to pass messages onto students when required.

Please email Whaea Cheri at cherig@tauranga-int.school.nz if you believe there are legitimate reasons why your child needs to bring a phone to school. Please include your child’s name, Room number and the reason for the phone coming to the school.

Students who have permission to bring a phone are required to leave them at the student office. They must be off whilst on the school site.

Thank you for your support. We know that there are many negative aspects to phones at school and aim to protect all students and staff by keeping them out of our school.
